Re: when a cyl doesn't fire what happends to the fuel? Posted by B Millar [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Re: when a cyl doesn't fire what happends to the fuel?, Stephen Goldberger, Mon, 11 Aug 2008 06:44:49 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I don't think it's that uncommon to get a DIC failure on just one cylinder. I would suspect DIC before sparkplugs. Anyway, I wouldn't worry about the extra fuel from just one cylinder as Stephen pointed out. There's enough heat in the manifold from the other two cylinders that most of it's probably burnt off before it reaches the catalytic converter. I checked WIS regarding P0303 vs. P1303. They're the same exact thing except P1303 says "Catalyst Damaging," meaning that it's a continuous misfire, not just a few here and there. Driving for ~10 min probably wasn't a good idea but like I said before I don't think just one cylinder is going to damage stuff. I would look at the DIC. Are they original to the car? Cylinder 3 is the middle cylinder in the front bank. Take that DIC out and inspect it for cracks. I'd be willing to bet it's cracked and there's a bunch of oil down in the head from it if it's original. Good luck!
