On a side note, this is an interesting time to be considering whether or not to go with premium.
At least in the US, the price difference between 87 and 91 has always been 20 cents. When gas was $1/gallon, premium was 20% more expensive. Though gas was cheap, the extra price difference made it worth figuring out if the expense was worth it.
With gas at 3.70/gallon, the price difference is 5%. At that rate, you might as well just give your Saab the best. A minor mileage increase with premium will pay for itself quickly.
I'll also report anecdotal increases in fuel consumption between regular and premium (which, instead of basing on the SID's reporting of mileage, I base on how far I can go on a tank of gasoline over a variety of tanks (in which I drove my usual mixed driving.)
While I haven't done a lot of research like that recently, hypermiling strategies seems to increase gasoline mileage significantly.
