Indeed! But there's two issues - lateral uneven wear (the feathering you see) and circumfrencially uneven wear (cupping). Cupping *is* affected by the tire brand, also the frequency of rotating. Cross-rotating (for non-directional tires) might also help prevent cupping, but that's just a faith-based suggestion - I have no evidence or rationale for believing it.
I have developed a preference toward symmetric tires (directional or non) that can be reversed on the rim once the inside edge feathering becomes prominent, thus doubling the effective rear-station life. Perphaps I should also turn more vigorously to balance off with some outside edge wear, but Mrs. G already clutches for support when she sees a turn coming ;-).
Depending on how I feel about the "next 9-5" - if it turns out I'm staying with my current one for the duration, then I'll quick have a load-leveling rear suspension mounted. That should take care of the rear tire wear.
