It certainly is the recommended oil of choice. Here and from Saab (according to the sticker on my 2005 ARC Wagon). I think the more pressing point is frequent changes. The rule of thumb that synthetic will not break down in viscosity as quickly as dino is true, hence people pushing to 5k changes. Something certainly not recommended with dino oil. What people tend to forget, however, is that there's still blow-by past the pistons causing carbon build up in the oil (syn or dino). 5K+ used synthetic oil may have better viscosity at that point over dino, but it'd still be as dirty as the dino oil.
