Don't know about the gas mileage, but you can use the synthetic for double the miles you would use conventional oil....a few days ago I started a thread about it here...As usual, there are different opinions and suggestions.
Mine is to change the oil at 7,500 miles, this shouldn't pose a problem if you drive HWY or a modest combination of City/HWY....basically if you don't spend hours in traffic....I asked in the 93ss bulletin board how often the maintenance minder in their cars would ask for new oil, and they said anything between 7,500 to 10,000.
Most people are afraid of using oil for that long, so they would do the change every 6 months, or every 6,000.......
My RDX that has a computer too has requested new oil at about 7,500 to 8,000......soooooo I think it's worth it in the long run, but only if you do it yourself or go to a place different than the dealer...unless you go there to keep records and all that....
