Is a manufacture date of 5/1998 an early enough 99? :-) External vacuum pump, old rear calipers & everything... I actually saw a 4/98 production 9-5 in a junkyard!
Honestly, I know I had read about the booster pipe, but there wasn't anything resembling it in my way. WIS (Mine is up to 2004) basically says to just do what I ended up doing.
The only thing that was slightly in the way was a very flexible rubber hose near the temp sensor. But that moved very easily.
