Ok. So the bulb at least should be ok since you see it come on even though not properly.
Next step is to place a ground wire on the back of the alternators thin green wire lug. Have someone check the battery light with ignition on (engine not running) and see if the light flickers on when you touch the terminal with a simple ground wire.
If it does come on, I think you might have a bad alternator.
Be careful though when grounding that wire. The bad alternator I had this week decided to put out 10 Volt on that pin so it was some sparks flying when I did that check. That's also why the light did not come on because it was fed voltage backwards to the light like the alternator was charging.
