I ve driven the 3.0 TID after my 2.0 95 (I have driven the 2.3 also). The TID performs somewhere between the two through the gears, but really flies in top gear. The torque is up with the Aero, so top gear on the motorway is stunning. I found myself doing 110-120 (mph) when I though I was doing 80- 90. The new calibration on the speedo (log type scale) didnt help.
Better still the engine sounds fantastic, and pick is really quick. Just blip that throttle and smile. Far better then the 4s. You cannot tell its a Diesel except on tickover. I got 37 mpg on two 1 hour commutes through traffic in London and a fast bit on the motorway).
I never thought I d say this about a diesel engine...
General handling roadholding a big improvement over my 1999 model.
