Sound and economy ... (and some 2.2 TID experience)

Hi,
1. I also think, that the sound of the engine is definitely not diesel but more like some V8s; it's not supersilent but has some real good groll ... I LOVE it!
2. Your estimated 37 mpg are nearly unbelievable. I've driven four different cars (3.0 TIDs) and none was any better than mine in milage, in fact they all were very close. Even in the test of "auto, motor&sport", the absolute minimum consumption was about your value of 37 mpg. This is only possible, when cruising at 80 km/h in 5th on the freeway with no wind at all :-)
While I consider the V6 to be rather economical, it is not the major strength of this engine.
3. I also drove the 2.2 TID four cylinder new in the 9-5. The car had about 2000 miles on it and SID showed only a disappointing average consumption of 27 mpg, even worse than my 3.0 TID.
Though the car was rather fast also (while not as good as the 3.0 of course), sound level and vibrations were disappointing and the clutch was not hydraulically activated and therefore way too much effort in daily stop and go traffic. Given the little difference in list price, it's not worth serious consideration in my very personal point of view.
Best regards,
Christof
