I see what you're saying about the oil engine cooler needing replacement not being an unexpected thing, but I just find it strange that either way - oil engine cooler or blown head gasket, the resulting problem is the same.
That's not to mention that the guy at the dealer specifically said that he would look the car over to see if there were bigger problems before he replaced the cooler back in October. He seems to be so "forgetful", I seriously doubt that he looked the car over. So I've gone from a $1,200 bill which has lasted but a few weeks to either a $3,200 bill to fix the head gasket or $5,200 to replace the engine, as per the choices and quote that he gave me.
Obviously, I will not have the engine replaced, as I could buy a newer Saab for cheaper and, as per last week's news about Saab, I just couldn't buy another Saab. Note that this has nothing to do with the spreadsheet of other things the car needs. The exhaust needs repair ($600-1200), the A/C stopped working years ago (have a compressor, no money to install that luxury), the driver's window needs a new motor/lift assembly); dash lights need to be fixed; and the timing belt will soon need replacement, as well (another $600).
I'm just trying to get to the bottom of what I'm being "told" and seeing how much time a may have left. The cold weather is here and I need wheels, not story after story and bill after bill from what is supposed to be a Saab dealer who, by the way, gets there Saab parts from Goldwing!
