Yes, definitely be careful driving on the 401. I drive the stretch between London and Toronto quite often, and yes, the average speed is ~130-140kph (80-90mph). However, there are many marked and unmarked police cars giving tickets.
Biggest problem on the 401 (and other major highways around North America) is that you're sharing it with other drivers. Look at it this way: Half of the drivers on the road are below drivers right? (assuming an even and normal distribution). So half of the cars on the road you encounter are bad drivers. Add in the fact that people get tired, drunk, or distracted,and you have a large tendency for an accident. I see them every time I go home to Toronto..
Another thing about speeding is that someone who can be a perfectly safe and prudent driver (Lets assume the original poster is one), some kid might read it, and think this guy can do 130 on I75, why can't I do 140 on I95?!
