Thanks for the opinions, I was just surprised with the volume of people using this thing on their BMWs and MBs.
bRAD you make a good point, those cars have the oil filter accessible from the top of the engine, that probably explains why the Topsider is so popular with those folks. Although on the Aero, the oil filter can just about be reached without jacking up the car... but it'd be a reach. Anyway, it's *much* more accessible than on the 9000. Good job, Saab..
Rick, yeah, MBs have a LARGE oil capacity! 8 quarts is not unusual on those cars, and if I recall correctly, the turbo diesels use 12 quarts. I think the BMW straight six takes 6 or 7 quarts.
Jae, you're right, that's exactly what I was thinking... if it leaves behind even just a little oil, it'd probably be the nastiest, sludgiest part of the oil...
PatO, I had some other uses I was thinking about also, like changing the oil on my gasoline-engined powerwasher (only has a fill hole, like many manual gearboxes). Probably I'll just use a cheapy siphon pump for that one.
Thanks,
Jason
