fully meets the "basic recommendation of SAAB engines" as WRITTEN IN THE OWNERS MANUAL that Jason provides,

and of course SAAB has been the ulitmate proof source for my 5W- 30 contention all along, by providing their SAAB brand oil 5W-30 ( semi-synthetic ) oil in their inclusive maintenance package. They are willing to warranty their vehicles for 50,000 miles with this semi-synthetic 5W-30 product ( why ? -- it meets the basic recommendation of API SJ). Saab is willing to put its money where its mouth is, so to speak. Millions of dollars on the line if they were wrong.

The full synthetics have properties the exceed the semi-synthetics. Group V lubrication.

Another way some of you non-engineer folks may wish to look at this ( in a very simplistic way ) is that ACEA vs.API in this oil discussion is like Farenheit vs. Celcius.

On this side of the Atlantic, it's 68 F, but in Europe it's 20 C. Equates to the same thing.

And back to oil, if you get a FULL or synthetic API SJ --although most of the shelves in the USA are now stocked with API SL which is better yet (Amsoil Mobil 1) in the viscosity written in your owners manual for either basic driving applicatioin 5W-30/0W-30/5W-40 or extreme driving application 0W-40, you'll be all set.

And in Europe, if you shop for your favorite oil ... with the ACEA spec

If you cannot find 0W-40, try AutoZone in the USA.
