In defense of Mobil 1 5W-30/10W-30........

I bought a brand new 900T in 1984. After the 10,000 mile break-in period advised at the time, I used Mobil 5W-30/10W-30, changing the oil and filter every 5,000 miles, for its whole life. That life was 242,000 miles on the original turbo, cams, valves, etc. In fact the engine was never opened except to adjust the solid valve lifters. I drove 20,000 miles a year in city traffic, busy highway traffic, and flogged the car on long cross country trips over the Rockies and through New Mexico.
In the end the car was 'retired' after being hit and 'totaled' by a 4x4.
I have used Mobil 1 5W-30/10W-30 (replacing the oil and filter every 5,000 miles) since the first oil change on the 1998 900SET I bought new to replace my 900T. It is now 53,000 miles and no problems at all.
All that being said, I just oredered 2 cases of Mobil 1 0W-40 from http://www.avlube.com. I want to try it to see if I notice any difference. It maybe better or not. In reality the Mobil 1 5W-30/10W-30 is probably everything my engine ever really needs. But being a Manufacturing/Quality Engineer, I am always looking for something just a bit more optimized.
