Responses to this question can get pretty emotional as it really is a personal decision, based upon the individual's driving needs. Both engines have been around long enough with various makes to be considered reliable; the flip side of that is neither can be considered state of the art. Check Saab's published data, especially mpg and torque curves. The 4 will serve you better, especially with a stick shift, if you do a lot of round town driving. The 6 is better with an automatic and, because of the torque curve, better in freeway churning if you do a lot of freeway driving or at freeway speeds. Nice to have two engines available which can meet different needs.
