I chose the 6 over the LPT4 because of its better response--both in town and on the open road. An Aero was out of question at the time--but I sure would have considered it otherwise. (I haven't driven the 185 hp version of the 4, just the earlier 170.)
Either engine should offer a long life--discussions of longevity are more germane when looking beyond the first 200k miles. I would expect no less than that from either. The V6 drive belt service interval is 60k mi, with Saab picking up the first one, so that issue is irrelevant to your wallet until 120k.
The V6 will use more gas and wants a diet of premium.
Drive both and decide based on your preference.
