My '88 9000T did develop a leaky heater core, and I could detect the sweet smell of ethylene glycol, but some Bar's Leaks fluid fixed that, fortunately! (Very difficult/expensive to replace a 9000 heater core)
Bar's Leaks is highly recommended by the Quasimotors guy (on the 9000 BB) and it's also said that some manufacturers put this stuff in at the factory. I also read somewhere that one of the motorcyle manufacturers (Suzuki?) recommends adding this stuff at every coolant change.
Over on a 5-series BB, some of them recommend this GM stuff that goes into Corvettes to seal up/prevent leaks.. don't know the details on that one though.
