and my choice is Nokian WR 225-50-16 ... VR! All the dry road handling I will ever really want combined with all the winter snow, slush, and ice traction I will ever need. People way north of me (North Canton, Ohio) living where the plow drivers aren't obsessive-compulsives and who must, for whatever reason, venture forth no matter what - those people can get skinnier lower speed rated winter tires.
To quote the ad, "you're not buying snow tires, you're buying safety." Summer tires, like the Aero's OE Michelin Pilots, are not safe in the winter. My wide, high-speed Nokian WRs *are* safe in the winter. And good enough for the rest of the seasons, too. I'm going to have to do a lot of soul searching not to just use them when the Pilots wear out.
