Here's my experience on our 2001 9-5 wagon. I called a factory authorized Saab Repair center - not a dealer that sells cars, but services warranty work.
The head mechanic did NOT recommend 15" snows on the 9-5. He felt thee car would be too "squirmy". He also told me that other people who purchased the gislaved 15" package from them were not happy with handling.
I purchased Dunlop Wintersport M2's from Tire Rack - 215/55/16. It's the original tire size. They handle well - maybe 85-90% like the MXV-4 summer tires.
Now, for the winter driving....they perform pretty good. I've driven thru 8-12" of Snow (last winter in Buffalo when the got 6-7 FEET of SNOW in 5 days.) And the car did not have much problem...the TCS kicked in a few times but I was able to move and control the car.
I think you need to determine how much real "snow" driving you'll be doing vs. periodic snow driving. At the end of the day for me - living in Connecticut - 75% of the winter driving will be in little to no snow, so the wintersports are best for me. good luck.
