Greg, interesting questions to take into account.
From the `99 manual:
4 cyl = 4.1 qts
6 cyl = 4.6 qts
I cannot estimate accurately the rpm difference. My guess is that they are basically the same (max. torque on 4 cyl is at 1800 rpms while the 6 cyl waits until 2100 rpms.) given my ng900 and 9-5 loaner experiences.
