Use a slightly larger oil filter which retains the same bypass valve setting as the one you're currently using. For my 4cyl, the spec'd filter is (the same as) the ACDelco PF53, but I know that the "old style" PF13 has the same thread pitch, gasket diameter, & valve pressure as the PF53. It's about the same length, but somewhere around an inch larger in diameter, so it holds nearly 50% more dirt. I also get a few more ounces of oil in there. The larger diameter makes it a close fit, but since the filter is mounted horizontally I feel better going to a fatter filter rather than a longer filter (like the PFL400A).
