No problem with the badge. Saab knows this is an issue and should replace it for free even if you are out of warranty. Even if not, it's a cheap fix. I purchased my 99 Saab 9-5 at The Sharper Auto on Broadway and they bundled in an extended warranty. They are pretty good, and have a lot of cars to test drive.
Whoever you're buying from, demand the service history before buying. They can get it from Saab if it's been done at an authorized dealer. It seems that most issues come up before 50,000 miles, so buying with higher mileage isn't so bad. But if the car has been serviced regularly, and does not have any of the issues like missing pixels in SID or ACC display and blue smoke on startup you should be alright.
I just hit 50,000 and plan to take mine to Mile High Saab for everything from now on. Mike Shaw is just a little too up tight for my tastes.
