And did they work?

I fail to see how a DI failure would cause all the lights to not work.

I'd like to try and rule out something funky with the battery and/or charging system. Heck, it might be something as simple as a loose battery cable--I've seen friends' cars fail to start due to a loose battery cable.

Once started, most cars will continue to run if the battery terminals are loose, or even if you completely removed them from the battery, but I'm not sure how a SAAB would react to that. (But on any car, actually disconnecting the battery cables while the car is running can cause damage to the alternator) Also, I'm not sure how a car would react to a bad battery with an intermittent internal short circuit.

I believe it was patprice who wrote that usually only 3 things will make a SAAB stop running: a dead DI, a bad battery, or a bad fuel pump. The first item on your car was replaced, I hope there's nothing wrong with the second, and I doubt there's anything wrong with your fuel pump this early in the game.

Another question: during your failed attempts to start the car, did the engine crank (turn over), or did it not make any sound at all?

If there was no sound at all, I suspect something with the battery or charging system, or even the ignition switch.

If your hazard lights did not work, this might rule out the ignition switch, because the hazard light circuit is supposed to work regardless of the ignition switch's position.

hmmmmm...
