My thoughts are oil changes show dilligence towards "care" of the automobile, and IF, big IF, you ever encountered a engine problem under warranty, this can work in your favor.
Second, cheap insurance. Mobil 1 oil in the USA is very cheap vs UK pricing, and if you've ever been in one of our traffic jams.....some would classify them as "extreme driving" classification.
After warranty, you could even change the oil filter at 5,000 miles, and top-up approx. .25 litres, then change everything at 10,0000. I've done that before, too.
I just offered up a very "general" solution that has worked well for me. It can certainly be modified or tweaked to suite the tastes of each individual owner.
The REAL POINT I try to make is upgrade from semi-synthetic (that SAAB says is the spec oil for your 9-5) to a high quality FULL SYNTHETIC.
Glad you've done that. You should have no problems. Good show !!
