It may be nice to look a virgin oil, but the real test is after the oil has been in use, and wear metals analsys is what its really all about.
None of these tests tell you about cam skuffing or oil coking in the top ring lands. There are engine stress tests designed to tackle such issues and non of these aspects are addressed with what has been discussed here yet.
All synthetic oils have some mineral oils to carry the addative package. In mobil one, in the bottom of the bottles I have seen some small drops of addative that have come out of susptension, but that does not happen very often. I expect that there are semi synthetics that have widely different mineral oil content. So the term semi synthetic simple means that it is simply a mix of undisclosed proportions. I expect that the protection of these will vary widely, some great, some not.
