I have a 99 9 -3 this is my second SAAB. I have a 9 5 Aero on order and it should be here next week - Hazelnut.)
I've changed oil on all my cars at regular intervals and run the cars in what you fellows would consider extreme conditions - In Canada!!! These cars are designed for the cold and for reasonable trips. The cold I'm talking about is not Minnesota cold it's Alaska cold -40F is the same as -40C. The usual terms of operation in the winter are about 0F give or take. Heck it's April and this morning I went out and it was 29F! No tulips I can tell you that much.
The oil change regimen I adhere to is change the oil when I change the clocks spring and fall. I use semi-synth oil SAE 5-W40 as the book that SAAB gave me recommends. I travel about 12,000kms a year about 7000 miles - short trips to work 3 miles and trips to the mountains skiing 200 miles each way on several weekends in the winter. (My summers are spent aboard my BMW motor bike- (That's for another bulletin board)
Do I need to worry? Do I use the wrong oil? Can I change to synthetic and extend my changes? Does it matter for the type of driving?
I've read the post and found some of these answers but you folks seem to be wiser than I.
Cheers J.
