The situation is that Mobil 1 0W-40 is rated A3-B3 and the rest of the Mobil 1s are rated A1-B1. The A3-B3 oil meets higher standards. The recommendation has nothing to do with your local weather. As to your weather, 0W-40 will do just fine.
Me? I used Casterol the last time, don't remember if it was 0W-40 or 10W-40, it got selected over Mobil 1 because it was the only A3-B3 oil I could find around where I live. No Mobil 1 0W-40 available.
