Anyone else had this problem?- the engine in our 2001 9-5 blew at 85,000 km (53,000 mi). This is a car bought in Canada, and legally imported into the US when we moved a couple years ago. We were in Canada when it blew, so now we're being tossed between Saab Canada and Saab USA. Worst part is that we had tried to extend the warranty before the 50,000 mi were up - the dealer took our money - then told us a month later that the warranty had to be extended before 36,000 mi. and (6-months later) they returned the money to us. (In Canada they'll extend it right up to 49,999 miles - that is 79,999 km). The cost of replacing the engine with a used one was $5000 US. Saab Canada is offering a mere $750 US towards the repair as a peace offering - which seems unfair so soon out of warranty. Saab USA told us to buy another car and they'll pay for an extended warranty on that one! GMPP says if we want to put an extended warranty on the now-repaired car, they will do it (at the usual cost), but they won't instate the warranty we'd applied and paid for at 48,000 mi.
I should add that this is our 5th Saab (and we've referred something like 14 sales to the dealer as well) so this is doubly frustrating. I've gone to the dealer for help, and they referred it to the regional service manager of Saab Canada (since that's where it broke down).
Anyone out there ever run into a problem like this? Any ideas on how to handle it? I'm at my wit's end! With an experience like this, I'm ready to swear off of the car for good! Ursula.
