Saturn replaced the DI on every 2000-2001 L series car with the 2.2L engine because of the failure rate of the part. I can't say if the newer DI is any better, but the chatter is that the new part is much better.
BTW, the Saturn DI is made by Bosch for Saturn. I have no idea who makes the Saab DI, but I would also suspect Bosch.
General wisdom on this board is to use only the factory spec spark plugs, gapped at .035" and use some electrical grease on the DI nipple ends.
