I also recently bought a 2000 9-5 aero (a manual wagon with 31,000, owned since June '03). It has been flawless except for a pesky noise I sometimes get when engaging first gear. That turns out to be a (non-warranty) clutch problem, although one that does not seem to affect performance now and hopefully I can avoid the expensive repair for a long, long time.
I have had my fair share of problems in the four Saabs I have owned, beginning with a '69 96 (the best so far). That one ran quite reliably to 150K, when refilling the crankcase due to a slow clutchshaft seal got to be more trouble that it was worth to me. I sold it to a friend who drove it to 196,000 -- no rebuilds of the engine or tranny. It threw a rod. That's great performance for a '69 car. Let's hope our 2000s can compare favorably.
PS -- There seem to be a lot of 2000 9-5 aeros coming on the market; hard to believe so many were sold new! But it suggests that they have more problems than LPT models, perhaps because they were driven hard. I love the ride in mine, but drive it gently -- a disgrace to the hpt but hopefully, it will last a long time.
-- Jeff
