I notice the same thing... the ABS kicks in way too soon, way too soon. i can be going 5 miles an hour, slam on the brakes, and coast to a stop, which is a problem in traffic.
My last car was a 99 eclipse, with no ABS, and with SUMMER tires, and it stopped better in the snow. I think the ABS is way too sensitive... this is my second winter with this car, had the eclipse for 3.
I try repeatedly, and it seems that the car just has terrible winter braking... at a stop light from 20mph, in LIGHT snow, minimal ice, i ended up in the middle of the intersection when i came to a stop. the pickup next to me stopped perfectly fine though.
Now I have to start braking a few hundred feet in advance of the normal spot.
I dont think the ABS hold the wheels to the point of lock up like they should, seems like they hold partially tight, then relaase, repeat... not giving the best stopping.
Other cars with ABS are great, the saab has been a disappointment... but acceleration in snow is wonderful at least.
