on your lead-footed Mama ... When I switched from OE to EBC GreenPads at about 8000 miles, the OE pads were still thicker than the brand new EBC. These are heavy, high powered cars. I suspect people are switching into them from lighter, lower powered cars but driving with the same press to the gas pedal and driving to the same "perceived speed." Surprise, the gas mileage is a lot lower than they'd been used to, and the brakes and tires wear out faster than they're used to.
What you *will* receive as a good will gesture is new rotors no-charge if
a) the rotors are below minimum thickness (they always are), and
2) the pads are replaced with OE at the dealer.
Also consider, the repair limit is going to be fairly conservative, knowing that the service intervals are 10,000 miles apart. They might well be recommending replacement when the pads are at a third, knowing that they won't make it to the next service. Note as well that the Saab OE pads have little screeching generators built into them which will get your attention when the pads are *really* in need of change.
