At 34,000, I believe I have 11-12 mm left on my manual 02 wagon.
I watch the MPG very closely, which means NO BRAKING!!! Lots of anticipation, and NO tailgating!!!
My wife, on the other hand, seems to accelerate all the way up to a turn at an intersection (no coasting), then brakes hard to almost a stop, and then finally turns. Her brake pads wear out much faster in my experience. (Honda CRV, manual)
It's enitirely possible that the car that has worn out brake pads at 19k has an elevated idle speed. Worth checking out in automatics.
