I'd be interested in seeing some extended OCI oil analysis on the Syntec myself. CRAIG S. was concerned that his use of of Syntec for 6-8k intervals might have caused a sludging problem in his engine.
My point was that the A3/B3 rating identifies oils that are intended for extended drain intervals, and he should not worry. I have run the 5-50 Syntec in a 5cyl audi(non turbo) for 6-7k intervals for 90k miles with no problems. I switched to Rotella synthetic since it is cheaper and is made from the same base stock as the Syntec. The rotella does not carry the A3/B3 rating but does state that it's intended for extended drain intervals. I suspect the fact that it is not intended for sale in European markets means that it will not be tested to the A3/B3 requiements.
I'm running my Saab with M1 0-40 for 7500 drain intervals but may switch over to the lower priced rotella with a 5K d interval in the future.
