Most of the bad carma with Castrol FakeTek(tm) comes from their ramming group III oil down our throats under the 'synthetic' label. And almost everyone else followed suit. The only product 'on the shelf' that is a true synthetic is Mobil 1. Amsoil is still a true synthetic product, except for there series 2000 which quietly became a group III product.

So all of the group III products are way overpriced and the profits are obscene. All but for Shell Rotella Synthethic Rotella 5W40 at WalMart USA for $12.88/gallon. Thats where the prices for group III should be.

Now FakeTec(tm) does meet or exceed the specs that it is sold under. But that does not mean that it is as good as a group IV/V oil. Dyno oil meets the same specs too. The FakeTec(tm) adverts on TV make a wild claim that it outperforms '?all?conventional motor oils'. Conventional oils would be basic group II dyno oil. Well isn't that a feat of technology. DUH!

Anyways, if you are going to spend money on a synthetic oil, you might was well go with Mobil 1 and get the real thing. Don't reward those selling FakeTec(tm) and other group III oils.

So yes, FakeTek(tm) may verywell be sufficient for your needs. I was using that years ago and two things happened, rear seal leak, as all were failing, and a valve train tick. The ticking developed on FakeTek(tm). With M1 10W30 the rear seal leaked less. And with M1 then Delvac 1, the ticking never returned.

M1 0W40 or M1 truck and suv 5W40 <--(Delvac 1 repackaged) would also be good choices.
