Thanks to everyone for your comments; makes me much less uneasy about buying a Saab. It's a car I've always admired but never could talk myself into buying. Sounds like the newer 9-5s have taken care of most of my concerns.
Funny you should mention the A6 2.7T -- it was one of the cars on the short list. Great to drive, but my mechanic and others have warned me about repairs/maintenance. As he said, it's a great car when it's not being worked on.
I'm basically looking for something fun and practical, and good in bad weather and I'm looking to spend lower to mid 20s for it.. The 9-5 certainly meets these criteria, as would the A6 if it didn't fall apart. I've also considered the Mazda6 hatchback (V6/manual) and the Acura TSX (manual). Drove both and liked them, but am not sure I want to buy a new car. And after years of Mercedes-Benzes and Audis, I'm not sure a non-premium non-European car would work for me (even though the Acura was very impressive).
Any other thoughts y'all have would be appreciated. Even though I'm new, so far this is a great board.
