Right...I rewired a 65 GTO in an afternoon (the main wiring harness goes for a blistering $100), but it's a whole different world 40 years later. Heck, I could run and drive the car as long as I had battery positive and negative and about 4 other feet of wire.
In a 9-5, if you get the water up to the seat bottoms (18" or so), not an unrealistic level in a flood situation, you've moistened the trans control module (if equipped), SRS controller, part of the keyless system, wasted the ACC and the whole heaterbox hardware lump, (not to mention side airbags/power seat if equipped)... I think there's another 2 controllers under the seats, too.
You might not notice a problem right away, either, it's a couple years down the road when corrosion sets in and weird things happen, things that are terribly complicated to track down since it could be the box, the connector, or the wires.
I mean, you could take the chance, treat every connector with contact cleaner and sealer, etc., spend a few weekends on it, and expect issues, but in terms of price, anything more than 25% of lowest wholesale would be too much for the risk involved.
