I don't mean to be rude but the reason why you don't think they handle good is because of the saabs you own. They do handle poorly when compared to a 900 with the lowered springs as well as sway bars. There is a HUGE difference in the cars. My brother has a 86 900s w/0 sway bars & it didn't do bad once you learned how the leaning works, he spent the $270 on sas bars & it's a whole different world.
You need to ride/drive a 900 spg (87+) to see how good they handle. 60/40 is the ideal weight distribution for a FWD car & these aren't to far off. Also, a SPG in car & driver (back in the late 80's) did 67.3 mph through a 300 ft slalom. Go look in the new mags & see what NEW cars can do better then that, not to many
I have also seen 88 SPG's beat early 90's vette's as well as numerous other cars on a solo II coarse. That was with stock suspension & non racing tires
& yes, they can be expensive to maintain but that's the price we pay for a fun, safe car.
