My 16 year old daughter was hit broadside in an 88 Festiva few weeks ago. We were very lucky she wasn't seriously injured, the car, of course, is a mass of tangeled steel. She honestly needs a car and buying one is difficult for me (single working mom--no child support) but I'm trying to help her find something safe. We are going to look at a 1987 Saab 900 on Saturday...asking price is $2500.00. I know nothing about cars and don't know what to look for or if this is a car that had engine problems. My daughter is paying half with her savings, and I'm trying to come up with the rest. What should I look for to know that this is a good car. If the turbo, fuel pump or anything else costly went out we'd really be in trouble.......any and all thoughts, recommendations or suggestions would really help. If it matters we are in the northwest...Olympic peninsula.Thanks.
