to all who have helped me along the way, just want to let you know that the car is up and running! i am thrilled and quite pleased wtih myself ( "not bad for agirl"..all the guys at work are extremely impressed!) but I am still completely vexed by the wiring situation. Presently have the realy jumped and the thermoswithc back in the loop. The fan is operating as it is supposed to. I would like to say that means it was indeed the relay.however, what can possibly explain the fact that when I took both those out if the circuit, the fan did NOT run as I was told to expect. Even weirder, the fan did come on with the wires like that at the very minute my car reached that "pretty warm" mark. i can only think that there is a loose wire somewhere and it coincidentally made contacat at that very moment..or there is a second thermoswitch that i don't know about? I am NOT trusting the wiring and will continue to watch the guages and listen for fan etc. Eventualy will track down the bad wire if there is one. Still have lots more to do. Will continue to ask for your great advice. But for now anyway, it's on the road again!
