Yeah, cleaned it for the first time in years this morning, in fact. Used Simple Green Automotive (just foams/clings more) and more plain Simple Green when that ran out. Used a toilet brush and green Scotchbrite pad.
Then, because no oil-dissolving solvent I've ever met is completely harmless to aluminum, rubber, or paint, I only use it on greasy areas and rinse thoroughly. Afterwards, I fill a sprindling can w/ regular car wash soap & water and wash the entire engine bay/fender compartments - just sprinkle the whole thing and scrub what needs scrubbing. Gently rinse. Inspect distributor cap for water. In all cases, do not blast water at anything that has a seam (distributor, fluid caps, electrical connections, vacuum grommets & fittings). Done.
