Botched clutch job! HELP! Long and desperate!

Continued my clutch job today. First the symptoms: No freeplay in pedal- and it slipped slightly the other day. Now here goes. I pulled the radiator because I needed that too. I figured it would give me more room to work. It did but it didn't really matter. The other day while attempting to pull the plastic cover, I tore the outer rubber hose that surrounds the little chrome pipe that goes into the turbo tube. It's about at 12:30 as you're looking at the car from the front. That was the first screw up. I'm told that hose is damn near $100!! Today I pulled the plastic cover, only to discover it looks like the clutch has already been replaced!! It's a Borg Beck. I don't think that's original but I'm not sure. Couldn't even find the name mentioned on this site. Looking through the various viewpoints on the pressure plate, the drive plate looks pretty thick. So what the hell was causing that pedal to be so high? There was evidence of oil leaking around the slave and it barely depressed the plate enough to put anything in the fingers of the clutch other than an insulated copper wire, leave alone a spark plug wire. In other words, this thing's not coming out of there, there's just not enough space the way it is. In fact, even after I got the copper wire in the fingers then released the clutch pedal, the throw out bearing was tight as hell against the fingers and that was with the wire/spacer in. Now it even seems like the seal blew at the back of the slave. Botch job #2. HELP! ('88 SPG.)
