Believe me, no one follows the DIY spirit more than I do. But my problem is, my pride and joy is also my only transport to work, and I don't want to risk my ride on my own mechanical inexperience. I also don't want to get stuck with the car half apart and wait for a response from someone on the board. I try and do as much as I can on my own, but some stuff I just A) don't have the tools for (I certainly don't have the press needed for a wheel bearing) and/or B) don't have the time for and/or C) don't have the confidence in doing. But I certainly agree that given enough time and the right tools, you should be able to do it yourself. Hell, its certainly cheaper than taking it to a mechanic! :)
