Well, here's the story: I got my new sparkplugs and magnecore wires and opened the hood for (what I thought would be) a straightforward plug and wire replacement. I removed each wire only when I changed the relevant sparkplug so I wouldn't get the firing order confused. I started her up and it didn't catch. Did it a couple times more. Took out the plugs and regapped them, and that helped a little bit, only now when it started it would cough down to ~900 RPM, almost stall, then surge up to 2500 RPM, rinse, repeat. Your basic surging problem. It didn't seem to get any better as I let it run, and even then for not long because I've heard horror stories about misfires putting fuel in the exhaust and causing fires. That's where I am now...
Oh, and mine is black, and has about 189,000 miles on it. Love her to death. :)
