Yep, put anti-seize on the threads and dielectric grease on the ceramic. Actually I wondered if I didn't put enough dielectric grease on the plugs. They DID snap, though, and I had the same thoughts you did, that a connection was loose somewhere, so I very deliberately and slowly reset the connections on the coil wire and each of the ignition wires. No luck.
The o2 sensor is a usualy culprit for the poor idle, if I'm not mistaken, so the shop's diagnosis isn't too far off base. I just had a long discussion with them about it and what might've caused the o2 sensor to go, seeing as the car was idling fine the night before. They also said my EGR valve is busted...why is it every mechanic I take my car to finds something else wrong with it? Nowadays I take it to like two or three guys and whatever they have a consensus on I fix.
