i have a non-turbo, so the O2 sensor was too simple. with the turbo access can be difficult. but then again it could come right off...
by the way, the ford/bosch generic o2 sensor is about $35 and well worth the skinned knuckles when you see what the shop wants to charge.
what's the idle like when the car is first started (cold)? the AMM mostly controls idle until the o2 sensor reaches op. temp. so, if it idles wacko from the start i think ERG is more likely at fault. is the check engine light on? have you dumped the codes? it would likely just say "air/fuel mixture fault" anyway...
i think the ERG would act like a vac leak and illicit the funky idle. you didn't knock any vac lines off or anything? i'm annoyed that you have a simple cause and effect episode (typically i spend weeks listening to things...) and we can't figure it out. how about a bad plug? did you try putting the old ones back on? the arcing i described earlier was solved by putting my old coil wire back on.
burlyb (kinda like the new handle - thanks for the offer)
