Any way to test headlamp relay?

Last week I posted a message about the headlamps in my 92 900S coming on spontaneously even though the car is turned off and the headlights are switched off. Thanks for the two responses suggesting I check: (1) the grounds (which I undid, cleaned to ensure good contacts, and retightened) and (2) the ignition switch (which does not seem to be at fault because nothing else comes on spontaneously and the headlights come on even when switched off so they are not just "thinking" the car is on from the ignition switch--is this correct logic?).
I'm looking for any other suggestions, in particular if there is a way to test the headlamp relay. Given the $40-$50 cost of a new relay, I'd prefer to avoid the trial and error replacement route. Thanks. Shane
