shocks are easy just loosen bolts and unload/load springs(with a jack) untill you can slide them off or on. rear ones can make you crazy trying to compress them enough to pull them off. but it is possible. a hint for installing the rear ones is to compress the shock with your body weight and tie a string around it from end to end so you can get it in the hole then pull the string off and it will expand into place.

ball joints take a little more but once you get it you can replace all 4 in about 1 hour (after some practice)
the problem with ball joints is unless you take the axle off of the spindle(wich is quite easy but takes some knowledge) it is hard to torque the ball joint bolt.
