I did my ball joints, shocks & springs with tools, Bentley, & patience. A bit of a pain, but not too hard. Biggest problem was I couldn't get my old ball joints off without renting a tool specifically designed for their removal (I think it's called a "pickle fork"). You wreck the old ball joints using it, but you're throwing them out anyway, so it's no big deal.
Good idea to get alignment done after the job is done...
