I would try to get as much as possible out of him that you can, what he did is just f#$%@% up. I don't care how mad i could ever get @ my girlfriend, i would never disrepect her or her property (and i get really sometimes... :)) so its not something that guys normally do to my knowledge when they get dumped. I would file a report, or talk to him saying you want him to pay, he will probably refuse, then get the police on his @ss with no warning (revenge is sweet sometimes) and make him pay top $'s to get it done perfectly.
